WILLEMSTAD – May 20, 2025 – Recently,Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB) introduced tourism as a subject for group 6 in primary schools and special education schools. The material aims to expand students’ knowledge of the importance of tourism for Curaçao. It includes a series of educational tourism videos, a teacher’s guidebook, and a student workbook. In 2022, CTB began the process of introducing tourism as a subject in primary schools, starting with group 5. Over the past three years, evaluations of the material were conducted in schools, which resulted in very positive outcomes. These evaluations also provided valuable feedback to improve the material for group 6 and special education. The launch ceremony took place aboard the Freewinds and featured speeches by the Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Charles Cooper, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, Mr. Sithree van Heydoorn and CTB Managing Director, Mr. Muryad de Bruin.

The material for group 6 and special education schools covers the following topics: jobs in the tourism industry, the importance of keeping Curaçao clean, marketing, culture and tourism, and a recap of the material from group 5. Present at the ceremony were group 6 and special education teachers who will soon begin working with the material, school administrators, representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Economic Development, actors from the educational videos, the script committee, the production team and tourism industry partners who contributed to the development of the material.

At the beginning of the new school year, CTB will organize workshops to help group 6 and special education teachers familiarize themselves with the material. The distribution of the material packages to all schools will also take place.

CTB expresses gratitude to everyone who contributed to the realization of this initiative, particularly the Ministry of Education, various school administrators, and partners in the tourism industry.
