33 people already completed the course successfully

WILLEMSTAD – April 3, 2024 – Recently, a new group of 12 individuals working in the hospitality industry started a course to become certified training instructors. This course is part of the Hospitality Training Program, and the individuals will be responsible for guiding trainees at their respective learning company. To date, a total of 33 people have successfully completed the training instructor course.

The course takes place once a week for a period of 7 weeks and consists of several modules, including communication, the onboarding process for new employees, didactic skills, conversation techniques, how to give feedback, methods to stimulate and motivate new employees, and effective performance evaluation conversations. The Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Ruisandro Cijntje, applauds the start of another group and states that “the guidance of the training instructor is extremely important and contributes to a better outcome for participants in the Hospitality Training Program”. Additionally, the Minister highlights that “the training program contributes to the industry by investing in equipping more employees in the hospitality industry to serve as training instructors. This not only benefits the current training program but also ensures that the acquired knowledge can be utilized to guide all other employees who will join the company in the future.”

The training program is managed by the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO), and the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB) is responsible for the implementation of the program. The program is executed in close collaboration with the Ministry of Labor (SOAW), the Ministry of Education (OWCS), and private sector partners. In the past months several training programs were conducted for tour guides, receptionists, massage therapists, assistant cooks, waiters, assistant bartenders, artisans, and housekeeping staff. Over 30 companies are contributing to the project as learning companies, thereby providing participants with an opportunity to gain practice and find employment in the hospitality industry.
